Familiarize yourself with your chosen opera beforehand, if possible.Every spot in the opera house has a small seat-back screen featuring subtitles in multiple languages, making it simple to follow along with the onstage action, regardless of the language of the performance.Last I checked, they are also available to rent. Bring binoculars if you choose a higher section.But, this is THE OPERA…you don’t have to dress like Julia & Richard in Pretty Woman, but a jacket for the men and a dress for the ladies is quite appreciated. You will likely see people in jeans and sneakers. Dress Code – Like Broadway, officially, there is no dress code and no one will kick you out.Tickets: the Met has many affordable programs, for younger folks, students, same day tickets, rush tickets and more.Family Circle – The highest section in the auditorium, with sound that’s cited by many opera lovers as the best in the house.Balcony – direct view of the stage and remarkable acoustics.Dress Circle – Three levels above the ground, offers a combination of view and value.Grand Tier – offers an excellent view of the stage with outstanding sound.Parterre – The most luxurious Met experience, with each Center Parterre box seats eight.Orchestra – With more than 1,500 seats, this is the largest section of the opera house and offers an unparalleled view of the stage.Generally speaking, lower sections provide better visuals and higher sections offer better acoustics. When this happens, the February – May monthly calendars will usually include ticket sales for this year and next year. (Note: The Opera will often announce the next year’s schedule more than a year in advance. ![]()
